The day after

It was never if. Always when. London is today picking itself up today and getting on with its business. It is the only way to win.

Unlike Brian Kilmeade of Fox News most Britons do not think the explosions work our advantage. We still think global warming or African poverty are bigger threats to the world than terrorism. Especially when UK/US foreign policy has done so much to increase global terrorism.

Any laws made in haste will be bad laws. The ID card bandwagon must still be resisted, as should calls for revenge or renewed violence against a mythical foe. When the IRA targeted London, they were halted by constructive discussion, by give and take on both sides. This should be our goal now.

Let the conspiracy theories roll.

On ABC News last night, their anchor kept refering to the blasts as being "The worst since WWII, when the Irish Republican Army was at it's worst"...... pillocks!

Anyway, the overwhelming feeling that I had (Living in NW1) last night was one of calmness and wonder.
We were lucky, these bomb blasts seem to be more aimed at disruption than death. There are a lot of easier targets in London that would have caused more injuries and fatalities.
Today, walking the streets of Camden is almost a joy. People are out doing their thing and talking to one another. faces in the street are asking each other if they and their friends are all okay. No-one knows one another but they all recognise fellow Londoners and the community spirit is alive and well.

They can knock us down, but we always get back up again!

Is George Bush the luckiest fella in town.
Just when it looked like some serious pressure was about to be applied at the G8, whilst under the spotlight of the world's press ... Bang!
All the attention is turned away from America's blatent disregard for the environment!
The only response we get from US official sources is telling us to look at the good side of any global warming, as it could make life nicer for us in northern Europe. "It may even make some parts of Siberia a better place to live"
I'm not sure the local Siberian folk will have the same thoughts as their modest dwellings begin to slowly subside as they sink thru the permafrost!
I'm pretty sure most of the Equitorial regions would not agree as a 2 degree warming could cause a 60% crop failure and submerge huge regions of coastline!

I'm not for a second saying that the horrors that hit London yesterday should be ignored or diluted, but the focus of the press and the public should not be drawn away from a much bigger and long term catastrophy that will effect every one of us.

Mr Bush keeps getting his lucky distractions and smoke screens, but at sometime both he and the people that he represents have to face up to their global responsibilities.

Hear Hear!

I run a music venue in London and tonight was one of the busiest Fridays we've had for quite a while.
The fair folk of London town may not be straying far from home but they are not dwelling on Thursdays events. Neither are they letting it take away any of their personal liberties.
Contrary to the views shown in the Daily Mail today who are using this as fuel for the ID card campaign.
Any suggestions of how ID Cards could have prevented Thursday?

i think maybe the suicide bombers ID cards would have been blown straight into the hands of a passing bobbie. In much the same way that, despite the destruction in New York, one of the 'hijackers' passports was found sitting nicely on top of the rubble.
