Too many thoughts

So, after 2 weeks of extreme relaxation I’m back behind my desk. Deep joy and happiness unbounded. Feels odd not being stoned by lunchtime though.

I’m struggling to write constructively on last weeks bombs in London. So many other bloggers and journalists are doing a far better job than I could hope to, but there are so many niggling doubts in my mind that I feel I need to get something out.

Firstly, I am disgusted with the media. Not just the shill voices on Fox (below) but the UK media as well. I know it only happened a few days ago, I know the dead are still being counted and identified, but why are the UK media not discussing any posibility of a link between the bombings and the the Bush/Bliar occupation of Iraq, or probing the inconsistencies which may indicate an alternative theory? Why aren’t the UK media asking the tough questions that are being asked in the blogosphere? And there are dozens of them. Do the reading. Or keep your head in the sand; I really don’t care at the moment.

As I’ve said before, conspiracy theories (and ALL speculation about last week, positive or negative is theory at the moment) can only grow in a vacuum created by a lack of information. Bliar is already feeding the London conspiracy theorists with his refusal to sanction any sort of official enquiry into the attack. This is astonishing. Hours after the bombings we were told that the (conveniently) previously unknown Secret Organization of al-Qaida in Europe was responsible. Serious commentators on the Middle East doubt this fact. Yesterday it was reported (because surveillance footage showed no Arab faces?) that a gang of white "mercenary terrorists" was hired by al-Qa'ida to carry out the attacks. Two stories in 3 days. Yet no inquiry. Why?

Of greater importance is this. We must not allow the attacks to be used by the government as way of restricting our civil liberties. Not one little bit. A UK version of the Patriot Act would be abused by the UK government every bit as much as it is abused by the US government. Have a read of this story from the BBC if you doubt their agenda. Here are the first three paragraphs.
Identity cards would not have stopped the London bombings which killed more than 50 people and injured many more, Charles Clarke has said.

But the home secretary said on balance he believed ID cards would help rather than hinder the ability to deal with particular terrorist threats.

He also suggested that in future civil liberties might have to be curtailed.
Make any sense to you? Paragraph 1 – ID cards would have done nothing to prevent the terrorist attacks last week. Paragraph 2 – ID cards would help prevent ‘other’ terrorist attacks. Paragraph 3 – the gentle softener preparing the ground for a rolling back of our liberties. Further proof needed? What about this story from yesterday’s Observer. Do you want all of your phone calls, text messages and emails stored? I may be cynical writing this post at this time, but isn’t the Home Secretary far more cynical using the attacks as preparation for his fascist agenda? Haven’t people lost their jobs in the past for similar moves?

It’s taken all morning to write this. Many re-drafts, deletions, insertions, un-deletions, cutting, copying and pasting. I think I know why, and maybe it’s the reason that 9/11 theories seem to really take root outside of the US. Despite all the horrors in the world, despite all the lying, cheating and abuse of power I know the worlds politicians and leaders to be capable of, despite my dislike of the UK government, the part of me that is decent and honourable (the greater part of me I hope) expects others to be equally decent and honourable. It's why humanity disappoints me so often, and yet I still retain a basic faith in the fundamental 'goodness' of humankind. It’s making me think more now; how can I harbour beliefs that Bush and the neo-cons knew about or encouraged 9/11 but thought 3,000 lives worth the boost it would give their evil, capitalist agenda alongside the doubts I have that anyone would do the same in London, a city I know and love? I am torn between wanting to know everything and wanting to know nothing. Does this mean ‘they’ are winning?
